SSB week 1

13/9/11
Today we started of on our new courses and I moved to SSB.
This is more of the housekeeping section were you learn how to clean chalets etc the appropriate why as well as do maintenance and all things that go hand on hand with the housekeeping practice.
On our first day we all got assigned to different departments to see how everything works.
I was sent to do housekeeping and maintenance at Adriano's house this was a bit nerve wrecking as he wants things exactly the why it was left when he came so you work out of a book packing his things correctly.I did this hang his blinds and then went on to  the cleaning bit.I wiped of all his rafters and then cleaned the spider webs of there as well as all dust that was visible.

14/9/11
Today I was sent to Adriano's house again to finish of were I started I oiled all his cupboards as the wood dries out and starts to crack if it is not maintained correctly it also gives it a better image.I then did some basic cleaning like mopping and cleaning of surfaces as well as vacuuming of the house. After this I went back and helped with basic maintenance  at some of the chalets for exp painting of the skirting.I then went back and filled all the chemicals we use to clean the chalets.I learned the procedure when dealing with chemicals and the importance of wearing protective clothing as some of these chemicals are harmful to you.
The protective clothing we use are:
  • Closed and correct shoes:if it falls does not hurt your foot
  • Gloves : To protect your hand against harmful chemicals
  • Safety goggles: To protect your eyes from chemicals
  • Mouth cover :So you do not inhale the gasses of these chemicals
  • Apron:To protect your cloths
These are only the basic things there are others we use.All these things are used to protect yourself from getting injured.

15/91/11
Today we did a project on hazards this was very important as we had to identify possible hazards in our section this helps you to open your  eyes a bit and see it in a bigger spectrum. You need to know your hazards and what the procedures are for the specific hazard to either eliminate or protect yourself and company against these hazards and liability when it comes to your company.

A Hazard is something that can cause a  injury or even worse death if it is not looked after maintained or eliminated  in the correct way.

We learned reporting procedures etc for when dealing with a hazard.....

Food and Beverage week 3

2-5/9/11

We had I real busy weekend and two of the other students were not present so we had a lack of hands and people what made it really difficult. This was in all a great learning experience as we had to work on our feet and under a lot of pressure there was a bit of conflict but learned how to deal with this as well .This was a successful weekend at the end of the day and we were busy but learned a lot.I know now how to handle pressure how to  control time and tables as well as build self confidence as well as for filling guests expectations by giving good service that we are so well known for......

6/8/11
We had to sand all the old tables and the we had to varnish them this was a task given to us for the following reason:
  • It looks better presentation is everything
  • It is a lot cheaper to repair than to replace
  • It is an OHS risk if things are damaged old or broken.

We learn all these things during this process and it was a lot of hard work as we had to do it by hand but was in all a nice experience and you learn to look at the business and the financial aspects of your business..
