At my first working weekend I was lucky enough to go and work at the Wildlife Centre..
This was a great experience and I learned a lot.
I had a chance to do great things like:
- Slaughtering a warthog. The meet is then used to feed the lions and Trigger the cheetah
- Plucked I Vulturine-Guineafowl
- How different foods gets prepared in the center and avoid cross contamination.
- How to measure meat on a scale.
Cleaning of cages and feeding animals like:
- Lions
- Owls
- Genet
- Caricols
- Mongoose
- Serval
- We also cleaned the Avory and fed the animals inside it
- And also cleaned, disinfected and organized the freezer where all the food stock is kept in.
These are only some of the things we got to do at the Wildlife center I also had the chance to feed other animals like: - Matilda and Peanut (the Giraffes)
- Clover (the Nyala)
- Jacob the (Wildebeest)
- I also did the packing of Nyala treats that get sent to the shop where guests can buy them to feed the animals or some of them on the farm.
The time I spend there was really amazing I got to integrate with all different types of animals and from the first day already started bonding with some like porky the warthog.Dobby the little bush baby is also just so amazing and i learned a lot of interesting facts of an bushbaby. He also gave me I big fright when he fell on his head and wasn't well until only later on it was an real relief.
This was in all a great experience and very scary at some times. I never knew what to expect of these animals and going into there cages as you are entering the animals private space or comfort zone. The other problem was also as you busy with the one animal there is always another one right beside you so you must be very alert .All these animals are tame but you must still respect them as they are still wild animals and can still injure you.
